The Astana International Financial Centre and Thomson Reuters sign Memorandum of Understanding

Astana, May 26, 2016 – Today JSC “Astana International Financial Centre Authority” (AIFC Authority) and Thomson Reuters signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) within the auspices of Astana Economic Forum.

The MOU was signed in order to strengthen cooperation on enhancement of business partnerships through the exchange of information and experience for development of the major strategic directions of the AIFC, which include capital market, asset management, private banking, Islamic finance and financial technologies.

«Industry experience of Thomson Reuters coupled with their innovative technologies will allow us to focus on the important task of developing financial expertise at the AIFC and information coverage of AIFC activities for international investors»,- Kairat Kelimbetov, Governor of the AIFC, said.

Piotr Marczewski, Managing Director, Russia and CIS at Thomson Reuters also commented, saying: «I am pleased to announce the beginning of cooperation and would like to thank the AIFC for their trust. Kazakhstan is one of the priority countries for Thomson Reuters, and we welcome this opporunity to contribute to its development. We will offer the AIFC technology, innovation and expertise that will help find answers to most of the issues of concern to business representatives and professionals».

The MOU emphasises commitment of both parties to deepen cooperation and explore new projects for collaboration for their mutual benefit.

AIFC. In December 2015 President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev signed the Constitutional law “On the Astana International Financial Centre” (AIFC). The aim of the AIFC is to form a leading international centre of financial services. For the first time in post-Soviet region Common law framework will be introduced in the AIFC. English shall be the official language of the AIFC.

 The objectives of the AIFC are to attract investment into the economy through the establishment of an attractive environment for investment in the financial services, develop local capital markets, ensuring their integration with the international capital markets, and develop markets for insurance and banking services and for Islamic financing in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
