Astana International Financial Centre and IBM organized a one-day training workshop

Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) in collaboration with the International IT University (IITU) and branch office of IBM in republic of the Kazakhstan organized a one-day training workshop, which was held in Almaty, Innovation Center of IITU, at 21 July.

The training workshop was organized into two sessions, which focused on IBM Bluemix cloud platform and future of blockchain technology in the republic of Kazakhstan.

The first session of workshop was dedicated for overview of IBM cloud platform Bluemix. Roman Boiko as Technical Specialist of IBM Hybrid Cloud presented the overview of architectures, compute models, applications & services and workload comparison of IBM Bluemix. Following the presentation Mikhail Korotko, Technical manager at IBM, branch discussed various existing services IBM platform including Internet of thing, big data, artificial intelligence and blockchain.

The second session of the workshop was planned to explore the potential of blockchain technology in the country. Professor Kouros Basiri as head of blockchain research group at IITU and Yedige Davletgaliyev as cofounder of Blockhchair provided the arguments on how blockchain technology can be applied to improve existing processes or unlock new technologies for public and private organizations in the republic of Kazakhstan.

The workshop aimed at raising awareness of entrepreneurs, developers and researchers on the use of IBM cloud platform services and understanding technology of blockchain. In addition, the workshop fostered participant’s understanding of the key concepts of the topics to bring the unique perspective on trending technologies.

Fintech is one of the major strategic directions for the development of the AIFC.


AIFC. In December 2015, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, signed the Constitutional Law “On the Astana International Financial Centre” (AIFC). The aim of the AIFC is to form a leading international centre of financial services. For the first time in a post-Soviet region, a common law framework will be introduced in the AIFC. English shall be the official language of the AIFC.

The objectives of the AIFC are to attract investment into the Republic of Kazakhstan economy through the establishment of an attractive environment for investment in financial services, develop local capital markets, ensuring their integration with international capital markets, and develop markets for insurance and banking services and for Islamic financing in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
