Education

Dr. Riera holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico, a Master’s degree in Management Engineering, and a Doctorate in Computer Systems Engineering and Decision Sciences from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. RPI’s Decision Sciences and Engineering Systems bestowed him with its Alumni Association Fellows Award.

Work experience

He has extensive experience in line and advisory roles in Exchanges, Sovereign Wealth Funds, Central Banks, Securities Regulators, Depositories, Asset Managers, and Custodian Banks.

Antonio has deep international and domestic experience across an array of topics spanning: a) strategy, b) target operating models, c) business process transformation, d) outsourcing, and e) alliance management.

He was a Charter Member of the Group of 30’s International Working Committee which developed the global standards for clearance and settlement of international securities and functioned as Co-chair of the Group of 30’s US Payment Committee, driving the implementation of Same Day Funds in the US.

He held the positions of Managing Director for Securities Services and Division Head of US Corresponding Banking Services at Citibank from 1978 to 1994. Between 1995 and 1998 he served as an Executive Director and Member of the Management Board of Cedel Bank and Cedel International.

Dr. Riera joined the Boston Consulting Group and became Senior Partner and Managing Director, and was global leader of the firm’s Exchanges, Securities Services, and Transaction Banking. He also served as Topic Leader for Financial Market Infrastructures.

Between 2015 and 2023 Dr. Riera served as Senior Advisor to the Boston Consulting Group.

Fiduciary experience

Dr. Riera served for ten years on the Boston Consulting Group’s Audit and Risk Committee of the Board of Directors.

Dr. Antonio is a founding Board Member of the Astana International Financial Center, where he is the Chair of the Compensation Committee.
