Presidents of Kazakhstan and Guinea-Bissau visited the Astana International Financial Centre 

The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and the President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, currently on an official visit to Kazakhstan, have visited the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC). 

Renat Bekturov, Governor of the AIFC, provided an overview of the financial centre’s structure and its key areas of activity. He highlighted that priority areas for collaboration between the two countries within the AIFC could include investments, green and Islamic finance, as well as professional training for the financial sector. 

It was noted that to date, the AIFC has attracted investments totalling $14 billion, including $6,7 billion in portfolio investments via the Astana International Exchange. The AIFC is home to over 3400 companies from 85 countries, including six from the African continent. 

The Presidents of Kazakhstan and Guinea-Bissau were briefed on the work of the AIFC Court, the first judicial system in Central Asia based on common law principles, as well as the operations of the International Arbitration Centre and the AIFC Green Finance Centre. The heads of state were further briefed on the activities of the Astana Financial Services Authority (AFSA) and the unique regulatory framework of the financial centre.
