As part of the Astana Finance Days 2022 conference, the AIFC Expat Centre and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) organized a joint panel session on “The role of migration in sustainable business development”
On June 28, as part of the Astana Finance Days 2022 conference, the AIFC Expat Centre and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) hosted a unique joint panel session under the topic of “The Role of Migration in Sustainable Business Development”.
Representatives of government bodies represented by Akmadi Sarbasov, First Vice Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Askar Aldungarov, Head of the External Migration Department of the Migration Service Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sergey Korenev, Managing Director of the Employment Department of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs Atameken and specialists from the International Organization for Migration, Michael Newson and Killian Clifford participated in the session as speakers.
IOM specialists Mr. Michael Newson and Mr. Killian Clifford shared their perspectives on the contribution of migrants to the national economy, the entrepreneurial potential of migrants in their countries of origin and residence, and whether migration can be considered a sustainable tool for business development.
The session’s speakers from the government bodies discussed the new Concept of the Republic of Kazakhstan’s Migration Policy for 2023-2027, that aims to implement tools to increase investment attractiveness and create the most favorable conditions for the development of local and foreign human capital.
The topic of challenges and needs of Kazakhstan business was also raised in terms of creating favourable conditions for attracting foreign human capital, which contributes by transferring valuable experience, technologies and investments for the further development of Kazakhstan business.
Mr. Zeynal Hajiyev, a Sub-Regional Coordinator for Central Asia, Head of IOM Mission to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, said: “The joint IOM-AIFC initiative will ensure more open access to financial services for migrants and will contribute to better development policies in Central Asia by ensuring fair and equal access to financial services and resources for all. In the context of the ever-growing number of international migrants and the growth of the national economy, it is essential to diversify and strengthen partnerships among all stakeholders”.
This year, the AIFC Expat Centre celebrates 5 years of successful operation of creating favourable entry and stay conditions for foreign experts and investors. Ainur Zhumatova, Head of the AIFC Expat Centre stated “We are always open to discuss and contribute into development of favourable entry and stay conditions by sharing AIFC’s successful expertise and experience. We hope that the cooperation between the AIFC and the International Organisation for Migration will bring tangible results for the business and investment infrastructure of the Nur-Sultan city and the country.”
