The name of the national currency Tenge was given by Sauk Takezhanov, well-known Kazakhstani scientist, holder of the Kurmet order, academician of the International Academy of Engineers. On November 15, 2006 the national currency was framed with a new design, and banknotes of 200, 500, 1 000, 5 000 and 10 000 Tenge were issued.
