Presidents of Kazakhstan and Armenia visited AIFC
The Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, who is currently on an official visit to Kazakhstan, visited the Astana International Financial Centre.
AIFC Governor Renat Bekturov briefed the presidents on the key areas of the financial centre’s activities and its contribution to regional development initiatives. The total investment attracted through the AIFC into Kazakhstan’s economy exceeds USD 13 billion, including USD 5,9 billion in portfolio investments on the AIX exchange and USD 7,3 billion in investments from AIFC participant companies. Today, around 3200 companies from over 80 countries operate within the AIFC, including six major Armenian companies specialising in information and communication technologies, financial services and insurance.
The presidents were introduced to the AIFC’s judicial system, including the work of the AIFC Court and the International Arbitration Centre. They were also informed about the activities of the Astana Financial Services Authority. It is worth noting that a Memorandum of Cooperation is in effect between the Astana Financial Services Authority and the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia, covering the supervision and regulation of banking, insurance and securities markets.
