The AIFC Green Finance Centre will participate in the project of gasification of thermal power plants in Almaty

Aidar Kazybayev, the Chief Executive Officer of the AIFC Green Finance Centre, held a meeting with Yerlan Kirkinbayev, the Chairman of the Management Board of Almaty Electric Stations JSC.

ALES JSC, affiliated to Samruk-Energy JSC, is the largest energy-producing organisation engaged in the production of heat and electricity for the population, industrial and agricultural enterprises in Almaty and Almaty region.

The Almaty TPP Gasification Project is the most important project to improve the air quality of Almaty and reduce harmful emissions. This project is under the personal control of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The Eurasian Development Bank has become an important financial partner of the Almaty TPP Gasification Project which intends to create comfortable conditions and financing schemes. The respective Agreement was signed between the Eurasian Development Bank and ALES JSC within the framework of the second Eurasian Forum in Moscow, on December 2, 2021.

Aidar Kazybayev proposed at the meeting a number of areas for cooperation, in particular, to attract the necessary funds to finance ALES’s green projects through the placement of green bonds, to conduct a technological audit in order to assess existing or projected technological solutions and develop recommendations on a set of organisational and technical measures necessary to improve the competitiveness of the enterprise. An agreement was also reached on planting trees together with the Eurasian Environmental Fund in the activity areas of the enterprise, as well as conducting workshops on project management for responsible employees and project managers of ALES.

The parties agreed to cooperate in the implementation of a number of projects for the reconstruction of Almaty TPP-3 using hydrogen, TPP-1 to increase capacity on gas, Kapshagai HPP, Cascade HPP (9 small HPPs) with the involvement of the Eurasian Development Bank.

In the near future, the parties will sign a corresponding bilateral Agreement containing the Plan of joint activities.
