Guidance: Purpose
The purpose of this list of Recognised Professional Bodies is to determine entry requirements for a Legal Adviser applying to the AIFC Legal Services Board for registration.
The list of Recognised Professional Bodies is developed to sustain sections 18 (Registration of Legal Advisers) and 19 (Criteria for application for registration of Legal Adviser) of the AIFC Legal Services Regulations 2022.
The list of Recognised Professional Bodies will establish system on recognition and acknowledgement of fitness and propriety (standing with any relevant regulatory body and a certificate of good standing).
Recognised Professional Body in question must fulfil four basic criteria:
❖ the profession’s members must be subject to a system of regulation as a profession of lawyers;
❖ members must be required to complete a specified training;
❖ members must be bound by an ethical code, and
❖ there must be disciplinary sanctions for breach of the ethical code which would extend to removal of the right to practise
Note: The list of Recognised Professional Bodies is not exhaustive. If professional body of your jurisdiction does not appear on this list, you must contact the AIFC Legal Services Board to evaluate and acknowledge your fitness and propriety.
