A session “Kazakhstan – Qatar Opportunities” was held as part of Astana Finance Days
In the framework of the development of cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the State of Qatar in the banking, financial and investment areas, at the sidelines of Astana Finance Days, on June 29, 2022, a panel session “Kazakhstan – Qatar Opportunities” was held (Opportunities of Kazakhstan and Qatar).
During the session, the Parties exchanged experience in building thriving financial ecosystems in Qatar and Kazakhstan, ways to increase further interaction between companies participating in financial centres based on the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) and Astana International Financial Center (AIFC), as well as the investment cooperation with Qatari companies in the field of energy, agriculture economy, mining sector, construction, and telecommunications. Representatives of the Qatar Stock Exchange, the law firm K&L Gates, KazakhInvest, the national company QazaqGaz and AIFC Financial Services Authority (AFSA) were speakers in the panel session.
In his speech, Dr Haithem Mohamed Al-Salama, Chief Economist of the Qatar Financial Center Authority, emphasised that the potential for trade and economic cooperation with Kazakhstan is on the priority agenda of Qatari business. The AIFC, considering the coverage of trade and economic spaces closely connected with Kazakhstan, positions itself to be a profitable provider of services for the development of Qatar investment activities.
The panel session participants generally noted the need to further develop cooperation between countries in the financial and investment fields, including through the AIFC platform.
In addition, on June 29, a bilateral meeting “Kazakhstan – Qatar” was held with the participation of the business circles of Kazakhstan and Qatar, including the Qatar Financial Centre, Commercial Bank of Qatar, and Qatar Islamic Bank QInvest investment company, the Qatar Stock Exchange, etc.
The parties exchanged information on mutually beneficial areas of cooperation to attract investment to Kazakhstan’s economy, further developing the potential for interaction between the Qatar Financial Centre and the AIFC, as well as stock exchanges.
The events were organised in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Qatar and the Embassy of Qatar in Kazakhstan.
