AIFC got the support of Elbasy

September 13, The First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy, Nursultan Nazarbayev visited the former territory of the international exhibition “Expo-2017”, which is considered to be the legacy of Elbasy, where today the Astana International Financial Centre is located – another realization of the idea of Elbasy.

Astana International Financial Centre was created by the initiative of Elbasy, and today, as part of his visit, Nursultan Nazarbayev saw by himself the practical implementation of his idea from infrastructural occupancy to the achievements in the capital market. Thus, representatives of certain areas of work and AIFC shareholders presented the results of their activities since its launch by the First President on July 5, 2018. Today, the AIFC has got the personal support of the First President of the country.

“The center will have serious work ahead. It is important to continue the built interaction with all partners. I personally will constantly support the work of the AIFC,” Nursultan Nazarbayev shared.

During his visit to the territory of the new financial center, the First President visited the offices of the International Court, the International Arbitration Center, the AIFC Law Academy and the Situation Center, where Christopher Campbell-Holt, Registrar of the AIFC Court spoke about the latest achievements of the institute. So, in February of this year, the eJustice electronic justice system was launched, which allows the parties to file claims in the AIFC Court and the Arbitration Center in electronic form from anywhere in the world without the need for a physical presence in Nur Sultan. Confidence is also growing on the part of business and the legal community, as evidenced by the inclusion of the jurisdiction of the AIFC Court and the International Arbitration Center in more than 800 contracts of both local and foreign companies.

During the visit, the First President of Kazakhstan also met with key shareholders and participants of the Astana International Exchange.
“It is necessary to continue the work begun on the implementation of the privatization plan through the Exchange. Of course, it is important to take into account the global situation. In addition, the confidence of the international financial centers of the world in the AIFC should be strengthened. The amount of funds attracted to the national economy depends on this,” said Elbasy.

In February 2019, the Astana International Exchange received the status of a “recognized stock exchange” from the Royal Tax and Customs Service of Great Britain. No other exchange in the CIS and Central Asia has this status. The amount of attracted share capital amounted to more than $ 70 million. In the first half of 2019, the total capitalization of the Exchange market amounted to over $ 1.9 billion. AIX’s trading members are 20 companies, including the 2 largest PRC brokers, leading investment banks in emerging markets Wood & Co and Renaissance Capital. The official list of the Exchange contains 25 issues of 15 different issuers.
