Astana International Financial Centre in cooperation with Thomson Reuters hosted the panel discussion within the framework of World Economic Forum

The delegation of the Astana International Financial Centre (hereinafter – AIFC), led by the Governor of the AIFC Mr Kairat Kelimbetov, participates in the World Economic Forum (WEF).

Within the framework of the forum, the AIFC in cooperation with Thomson Reuters hosted the panel discussion on the topic “Those who dare win: exploring new frontiers”. The main goal of the event is to discuss the investment attractiveness of emerging markets. In addition, AIFC’s opportunities were presented to the international business community.

Mustafa Adbel-Wadood, Managing Partner at Abraaj Group, Claver Gatete, Rwanda’s Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Anna Marrs, ASEAN and South Asia CEO at Standard Chartered and Carlos Pascual, Senior Vice President at Research and Analysis firm IHS Markit took part at the discussion as speakers.

The discussion was opened by a video message from the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, addressed to participants and guests of the panel session. In his speech, the Head of State noted the main milestones in the economic development of Kazakhstan since independence, ongoing structural reforms, and invited potential investors to an international presentation of the AIFC, which will be held in Astana in July 2018.

Top investors and business leaders as well as economists, and other experts attended the panel discussion. Mr Erbolat Dossaev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Bakhyt Sultanov. Minister of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Timur Suleimenov, Minister of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Zhanar Aitzhanova, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Switzerland also took part in the event.

 “I would like to encourage business people and investors to pay more attention to emerging markets, explore new opportunities and give new impetus to incumbent financial systems. In turn, AIFC would like to offer the unique opportunity of investing and partnering in Eurasia, where AIFC can be your gateway”, K. Kelimbetov pointed out.

On January 26, AIFC representatives will take part in the Caspian Week’s discussion on financial technologies. In addition, the AIFC delegation will have several business meetings with current and potential partners.

The aim of the AIFC is to form a leading international centre of financial services. For the first time in post-Soviet Region, Common law framework will be introduced in the AIFC.
