Kelimbetov: Using the capabilities of Almaty and the AIFC infrastructure is a good combination

Almaty hosted the Almaty Financial Forum as a part of the AIFC World Investor Week, with the participation of the mayor of Almaty Bakytzhan Sagintayev and the Governor of the AIFC Kairat Kelimbetov.

The forum, organized by the Astana International Financial Centre together with the Akimat of Almaty, gathered representatives of the city’s business community on its site.

During the event, the mayor of Almaty Bakytzhan Sagintayev and the AIFC Governor Kairat Kelimbetov had a welcoming speech.

According to the Republican newspaper «Казахстанская правда», Almaty Akimat plans to cooperate with the Investment Development Fund, which operates in the AIFC. Bakytzhan Sagintayev noted that, together with the Government, a package of measures is being implemented to reduce administrative barriers and simplify registration and business processes.

“In Almaty, due to the state budget, a unique infrastructure has been created in the Industrial Zone, and tax and other preferences are provided in the SEZ Park of Innovative Technologies”, – the mayor said.

According to the AIFC Governor Kairat Kelimbetov, the joint use of the capabilities of Almaty and the AIFC infrastructure is a good combination.

“We need to create appropriate new products. The latest technological innovation is the creation of various kinds of ecosystems, platforms, and probably such a joint use of the capabilities of Almaty and the AIFC infrastructure is a good combination that we could offer to our business community on the one hand, and on the other hand to the global investment community”, – Kelimbetov said.

The forum participants discussed the issue of protecting consumers of financial services, the AIFC business opportunities, the peculiarities of issuing the Green and the Islamic bonds, the advantages and procedures of registering at the AIFC and educational programs of the financial Center.

Representatives of the Astana Financial Services Authority (AFSA) noted the important role of the AIFC in protecting the interests of investors. The speakers also covered the interaction of the financial center with the regions, in particular, the use of the AIFC platform and expertise for the implementation of projects in Almaty.

The AIFC participants who represent such large international corporations as Sberbank of Russia, the largest bank in the People’s Republic of China – China Construction Bank, Wildberries, Ernst & Young and others shared their experience in doing business with the AIFC.

Recall that the World Investor Week is held annually under the auspices of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) in 80 countries, with the AIFC as the partner of the event in Kazakhstan. The event covers 6 cities of Kazakhstan, such as Petropavlovsk, Aktau, Karaganda, Turkestan, Almaty and Nur-Sultan.
