The Presidents of Kazakhstan and Kenya visited the Astana International Financial Centre

During the visit, the presidents were introduced to the activities of the AIFC and its role as a regional platform for attracting investment and expanding international financial cooperation between Kazakhstan and Kenya.

AIFC Governor Renat Bekturov presented to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and William Ruto the Centre’s key areas of activity, including the development of capital markets, sustainable, green, Islamic and aviation finance, as well as initiatives aimed at expanding the participation of international companies within the AIFC ecosystem.

It was noted that more than 5,600 companies from 90 countries are currently registered within the Centre’s ecosystem, while the total volume of investments attracted through the AIFC platform has exceeded USD 21.8 billion since its foundation. Over the entire period of the Centre’s operation, AIFC participants have contributed KZT 317.4 billion in taxes to the Kazakhstani state budget.

As part of the Kenyan delegation’s state visit to Kazakhstan, the Astana International Financial Centre and the Nairobi International Financial Centre signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation and developing a strategic partnership between the two financial ecosystems. The document was signed by Renat Bekturov, Governor of the AIFC, and Daniel Mainda, Chief Executive Officer of the Authority of the Nairobi International Financial Centre.

Under the agreement, the parties agreed to develop cooperation in the management of international financial centres, as well as to facilitate the exchange of information, analytical research and expert knowledge. The partnership also includes the implementation of joint initiatives, programmes and events aimed at raising investor awareness of the market opportunities available in Kazakhstan and Kenya.

The parties will pay special attention to the development of exchange infrastructure, fintech, green and sustainable finance, as well as improving financial centre regulation.
