President of Singapore Halimah Yacob visits AIFC
During a state visit to Kazakhstan, President of Singapore, Halimah Yacob also paid a visit to the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC, Centre). Mr. Renat Bekturov, the AIFC Governor, presented the AIFC Court, the first judicial system in Central Asia operating under the rules and principles of English law, to President. Furthermore, President Halimah Yacob was briefed on the activities of the Astana Financial Services Authority (AFSA) by CEO Nurkhat Kushimov, who provided an overview of the financial centre’s jurisdiction and explained the unique features of the regulatory regime.
The AIFC Governor briefed the President on the ongoing activities of the Centre and emphasized its potential to attract investments. He highlighted that the AIFC is a cutting-edge investment financial centre in the region, offering opportunities to engage with global financial markets and access diverse sources of financing. The Governor emphasized that there are currently over 30 participants from Singapore registered within the AIFC jurisdiction, including Quest Ventures, Indorama Corporation, Paladigm Capital, Mongold, and others.
At the end of her visit to AIFC, the President of Singapore left an entry in the Book of Honorary Guests of the Astana International Financial Centre.
Also, in the presence of the heads of state of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Singapore, an agreement was signed between the Astana International Financial Centre and Enterprise Singapore, the state agency for business development in Singapore. The purpose of this agreement is to collaborate on the registration of Singaporean companies on the AIFC platform, as well as to establish, promote, and strengthen cooperation between the parties in various investment projects in Kazakhstan.
During the Kazakhstan-Singapore Business Forum, a cooperation agreement was signed between the AIFC and the Kazakhstan-Singapore Business Council (KSBC). The signing ceremony took place in the presence of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan and the President of the Republic of Singapore. Renat Bekturov, the AIFC Governor, signed the agreement. The purpose of this agreement is to facilitate the establishment of Singaporean companies within the AIFC jurisdiction, support the expansion of Singaporean businesses in Kazakhstan, promote Kazakh companies in the Singaporean market, and foster interaction and knowledge exchange in investment projects.
