The president of Cyprus visited the Astana International Financial Centre
On 3 June, the president of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides visited the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC, the Centre), as part of his official visit to Kazakhstan and participation in the Kazakhstan-Cyprus Business Forum,
The distinguished guest was introduced to the activities of the financial centre, its institutional framework, and opportunities for expanding investment and financial cooperation between Kazakhstan and Cyprus.
Renat Bekturov, Governor of the AIFC, presented the Centre’s key areas of activity, including tools for attracting investment and developing capital markets, supporting international projects, and innovative financial solutions for the region. It was noted that the total volume of investments attracted to Kazakhstan through the AIFC ecosystem since its launch has reached USD 21.8 billion. More than 5,700 companies from 90 countries are currently registered within the AIFC. As of 1 April 2026, AIFC participants have contributed KZT 317.4 billion to the state budget in the form of taxes.
Cyprus remains one of Kazakhstan’s important investment partners. Between 2005 and 2025, the gross inflow of foreign direct investment from Cyprus into Kazakhstan’s economy amounted to USD 5.4 billion.
Trade and economic cooperation between the two countries also continues to develop. In 2025, bilateral trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Cyprus reached USD 794 thousand. Kazakhstan’s exports to Cyprus primarily consisted of pharmaceutical products, textiles, and broadcasting equipment. Imports from Cyprus included pharmaceutical products, machinery and equipment for filtering liquids and gases, dairy products, and lighting equipment.
The business presence of Cypriot companies in Kazakhstan is also expanding. More than 400 enterprises with Cypriot participation were operating in the country. At the same time, 33 companies from Cyprus are registered within the jurisdiction of the Astana International Financial Centre. These companies operate in financial services and insurance, information and communication technologies, professional, scientific and technical activities, mining, as well as administrative and support services. These include Playrix Kazakhstan Limited, EA Group Finance Ltd., Charge Ltd., and ADVANCED PAYMENT SOLUTIONS Ltd.
During his visit to the AIFC, the President of Cyprus also toured the Centre’s art space, the Museum of Trust, which showcases the history of Kazakhstan’s financial system development – from the era of the Great Silk Road to the establishment of the modern AIFC ecosystem.
